In certain cases, a Mastermind PBC/6X will get into a state that makes it impossible to factory reset it or load new settings from the computer. This is a process you can use to get your PBC up and running again.
You will need a Mac or PC with our editor software, which can be downloaded from the Mastermind PBC/6X page.
- Install the editor software if you haven't already
- Make a note of which firmware version your PBC has installed. This is displayed in the lower right corner of the screen when it powers up
- Connect your PBC/6X to the computer using a USB cable
- Power up the PBC/6X in the bootloader by holding the 1 and 3 buttons as you power it up
- Start up the editor, and select Transfer / Firmware Update in the menu
- The top section of the window should show "Mastermind PBC" in both the MIDI Input and MIDI Output fields. If it doesn't, check your USB connection, and click Rescan MIDI Ports
- Download the PBCUtil02.rjf file from the link at the bottom of this page
- Press the Select... button and select the firmware file you just downloaded.
- Now click Start to begin the process
- It will now erase all of your settings on the PBC/6X. This takes about 2 or 3 minutes, and it will put a message on the screen telling you when it's done
- When it's done, power down the PBC
- Download the same firmware version you noted from step 2. This can be downloaded from the Downloads page
- Power up your PBC while holding the 1 and 3 buttons
- Click Rescan MIDI Ports in the editor's Firmware Update window. "Mastermind PBC" should appear in both the MIDI Input and MIDI Output field.
- Press the Select... button and select the firmware file you just downloaded.
- Click Start to begin the process
- The firmware should load, then perform a factory reset.
At this point, it should be working normally once again. If it isn't, please start a support ticket.
