To install a firmware update on the Mastermind PBC/6X, you need the Mastermind Editor software and an update file.

NOTE!!! Please remember to back up your settings before performing a firmware update. If you have to revert back to an earlier firmware version, the Mastermind may factory reset, losing your settings.

Download and install the editor software

If you haven't done so already, you need to install the Mastermind Editor software. It can be found on the Mastermind PBC/6X page.

On a Windows PC: If the downloaded file ends in .zip, double click it. Then, double-click the .msi file to install the editor. Then, find the editor in the Start Menu (located under "MMEditor") and click to run it.

On a Mac: Double click the dmg file you downloaded. Drag the Mastermind Editor app to the Applications folder. Double click the Applications folder, then find and double click the Mastermind Editor.

Download the firmware file

Download the latest Mastermind firmware from the the Mastermind PBC/6X page. Save it to your Desktop or somewhere else that's easy to find.

Connect the Mastermind to your computer

Using a USB A to B cable (sometimes known as a USB printer cable), connect the Mastermind to a USB port on your computer.

Run the update

In the editor software, go to the Transfer menu and select Firmware Update.

The upper section should automatically show "Mastermind PBC" in the MIDI Input and MIDI output sections. If not, make sure that the PBC is connected to the computer and powered on, then click Rescan MIDI Ports.

Now, in the Update File section, click Select... and select the firmware update file you downloaded in a previous tab.

Once both of the previous sections are ready, click the Start button and the firmware update will begin. The process takes a few minutes to complete.
